Late Aug Pictures 050Energetically we are now in the in-between season of Earth Element energy. Over the years I have tuned into mother nature’s signal of the changing seasons and recognize this in-between seasonal state when the final days wrap up at the CNE here in Toronto and the popcorn and candy floss vendors disappear.  (Does anyone still eat that stuff?).  The days can be quite warm and this year much warmer than most of our soggy summer, but night drops down to a very cool breeze.  My balcony is not giving up the harvest of vegetables I envisioned last spring after reading Michael Pollan’s book on “IN Defense of FOod”.  But I am cherishing the 7 tiny tomatoes I was able to grow on my own just the same.

‘Back to school’ energy is in the wind and even if your school days are long over  you may find yourself yearning for a pack of new crayons, a new lunch box or to sign up for something.  By the way if you didn’t catch my earlier ReTweet from Zen Habits check out this link for inspiration on things to do that I think will nicely fill in that hole created by the “back to school” yearning invoked at this time of year. http://zenhabits.net/2009/09/do-interesting-things/

Earth element energy will soon segway us into Autumn and Metal Element energy but until then be in synch with mother nature’s energy by being aware of the coherent aspects of these qualities within yourself:

  • Mothering
  • Self-Nurturing
  • Supportiveness
  • Care
  • Sympathy
  • Groundedness
  • Home
  • Digestion
  • Repating the Harvest
  • Security
  • Imagination
  • Natural Cycles and Transitions

When we are in synch with nature and its cycles our lives are more energized and things work out a little easier for us.

If these Earth element qualities are missing for you at this time, join my long distance healing group called ENERGIZE (if you haven’t already) and tell me what issues you are grabbling with.  They will be repatterned in the next full session that I do online.  The next session is September 21 when I do Repatterning for the Fall Equinox.  Your field of energy will also be included in the daily mini session that boosts 7 life intentions I work with in the Energize program.   Here is the info link to learn more: http://www.lighttravels.org/energize.htm

To get into the energy of the season and be in flow I am creating my own “Night at the Proms” day on September 12th and perhaps playing anything I can get from the library by Elgar.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Night_of_the_Proms#Last_Night_of_the_Proms   while finishing up a long standing quilt project called ‘Arboretum’.   The colors are the frequency of the season as is the sound of Elgars music.

How are you celebrating the end of summer and beginning of fall?  What rituals do you keep? What helps you bring closure to summer?

What we resonate with we tend to experience. Notice what you are experiencing to start changing your frequency!about 4 hours ago from web

A few days ago, I noticed that the color and texture of commercial catsup has changed. It no longer clings to the sides of the bottle as it empties and where there is bit of a smear, it is translucent. If some of the sauce winds up outside the bottle after a picnic, it no longer turns an unsightly dark brown color. My curiosity has been so stirred up, that I squeezed ketchup onto a white plate to see how long it would take to turn brown. It is day 4 and is still bright red. Hmmm. Can this be good?
Energize! has certainly been working for me in the last few months (with all of the other repatterning sessions!) as new reading material crosses my desk, changing my views on food.

Increasingly the type and quality of food we eat is recognized as important to our overall health, well being and energy level. Now health and science writer Sondra Kornblatt, in her book “A Better Brain At Any Age -the Holistic Way to Improve Your Memory, Reduce Stress, and Sharpen Your Wits” includes a whole chapter on the effect of food on your brain and has suggestions on what to eat to improve your brain. Her book is a handy one to have if you have ever experienced a day of ‘brain fog’ as she has any number of things to try to improve brain functions. A change in food choices for example, can make all the difference. Here is a sampling of brain healthy food choice suggestions from Kornblatts book:

VEGETABLES:
- Avocados
- Greens, such as spinach, kale, or collards,
- sweet potatoes
- broccoli, or cabbage,

FRUITS:
-Blueberries
-Strawberries
-Berries of any kind for their anti-oxidant properties
- pomegranate juice

SPICES: – turmeric, a whiff of cinnamon, saffron and sage

Now add this list to your new awareness, that real food (not processed, not food smashed down and re-programmed with vitamins added etc.) is much better for you than processed food. Processed food has a molecular structure that our bodies were never meant to handle – at least not over a life time. Over a life time, processed food is being implicated in heart disease, type II diabetes, and other diseases.

Back to my catsup experiment – with a little online research, I found out that it is now made with liquid sugar which means in part it has corn syrup in it or fructose so that it can stay longer on a grocery shelf. This is the stuff that dissolves instantly in the blood stream and goes directly to the brain with the message “we are still hungry”. It only takes a tablespoon to trigger that message in the brain and does so within seconds.

In the old days, catsup was made with tomatoes and sugar. Evidence of it’s real food nature, is that It clung to the sides of the jar in clumps of red. It turned brown with oxidization if not used quickly enough or left on the outside of the bottle. It did not have a long term shelf life. It was as far as condiment can be considered- a real food.

A healthy food choice for catsup could be to try making your own (check out www.Gourmet.com ‘ s recipe search), or look for an organic catsup with no corn syrup or liquid sugar. It won’t have a long shelf life but will be a healthier food choice.

mirrorworld2How does my resonance with career or a career situation make a difference for world peace?  It seems on first blush a selfish thing to want for myself what much of the panet is in turmoil over – paying work.  How does resonating with having work for me help the planet?

In my mind’s eye it works like this.  There is a  lot of unemployment at the moment and we hear about it everyday on the news.  If I am unemployed and allow my energy to become that frequency in other words, if I resonate with unemployment, I will stay in that state and attract more of it.  Similarily, if I am employed – YIKES! My resonance and entrainment with being unemployed may shift my own experience and I may unnecessarily loose my paying work.  It is a risk!

What ever my vibration for employment, that is the energy I pump out into the world.   Others pick up that energy consciously or unconsciously like a TV news report and their field of energy is now expanded with that vibration. As we entrain for the topic of employment either in our companies, our families or our communities wer are supporting each other constructively or destructively with our resonances. Our most humanitarian frequency is then to resonate with the positive – full employement.

You are like thinking – one persons thoughts can’t possibly make a difference in the world.  But please consider this happy coincidence.  Maybe it is just my wildly creative imagination, but a few week ago I was a guest on a local radio show “Being There” on CIUT-FM and in the 1 hour show we explored the topic of repatterning and demonstrated the process on air by repatterning the now sagging Ontario economy.   The listening audience was invited to set their issues and  intentions for career or work while I used the econonmy as a proxy for everyone listening.  The  car industry was used as examples in the session.   Delightful session, great interview, but who knows if it made a difference. You don’t get much mail from a local radio show.

Two days later, my sister called to say that my brother-in-law, who was laid off indefinitely at the Oshawa GM Parts plant last December, was called back to work! We don’t know for how long, but today – he is back at work.

Could it be that one little repatterning changed my world so much?  It tempts me to want to focus my work on repatterning the car industry inside out.

I invite you to try this out for yourself. My talented and experienced repatterning colleauges as well as founder of Resonance Repatterning (R) Chloe Wordsworth,  will be doing a session each this month focusing on career.  If you have time, join in the teleconference call. Let’s see if we can create a tangible visible change to the state of employment at least in our communities.  Here are the days and times:

Salty Habits

Salt is an acquired taste, a choice that turns into a habit over a lifetime and sometimes is inherited as a food choice preference over many generations. Salt may also be a cultural preference, again, inherited from a time when it was the only way to preserve food over a long time – such as dried fish. My own parents, one from Italy and the other born in Canada constantly argued about what was the right amount of salt in prepared meals. These social and cultural factors form unconscious opinions of what is healthy and may govern the daily choices we make for adding salt to our food. They may even be hard wired into our mind to equal survival…. when in the present this is far from the case.

Examine your own food choices for excessive salt and fat as well, and consciously create new family patterns for healthy food choices. To strengthen your resolve, read literature from the American or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundations on the effects of salt. The whole family will benefit for generations to come.

How have you changed your habit for salt?  Share your tips, tricks and tribulations here.

Focus for the Week – “I appreciate 3 good things that happened for me today.”

There is a lot written about the benefits of having an attitude of gratitude, but perhaps one of the most amazing facts is how it can be used to tame the tiger within called anxiety or fear. When we spend as little as 3 minutes appreciating ourselves, our loved ones, the people we work with, the day, the weather, our neighbor, a home cooked meal or a restaurant treat, our vehicle, mother nature and anything else you can think of …. amazing things start happening in our brain.  A chemical is released which anchors and expands our feelings of gratitude and squeezes out or cancels fear and anxiety.

The more we practice verbalizing and thinking about how grateful we are, we become more calm and relaxed,  handling challenges with ease.  If life challenges seem really overwhelming and that there is little to be grateful for, start with the smallest thing – the weather, your home, your pet etc.In the beginning, our fear and anxiety button may feel more real and easier to engage than being grateful.  Saying gratitude statements may feel less than genuine.

However, I encourage you to hang in and keep flinging gratitude statements whenever you can.  Soon your outward experience will come zooming home with positive results. For example, I noticed that when driving, if I forgive those road ragers or overly aggressive drivers and focus on the great roads, the clear map directions, the gift of Map Quest, how wonderful the city is for maintaining the roads etc. my actual driving experience returns some delightful surprises – very convenient parking spaces, the traffic cop waving me through a construction area unexpectedly, drivers being courteous and traffic flowing better than usual.

Keep your attitude of gratitude sharp. Quick name 3 good things that have happened for you today:

1.
2.
3.

You may find this easier to do than you think as you have been repatterned with the mini repatterning called ENERGIZE!

What 3 good things have happened for you today?  Let’s build a hologram for appreciation by starting a list and sharing our good things in a reply to this post..  We’ll give each other encouragement and ideas along the way.

Here are my 3 Good Things

- I re-installed SKPE after not having it for nearly 2 years and SKPYE actually saved all of my old settings, and addresses so that I did not need to start from scratch

- It is the wettest summer on record in Toronto, and a little on the cool side.  I so appreciate cooler sunny summer weather! and am really enjoying the summer.  I appreciate how there have been fewer smog alert days, and how green the trees are this year and that they are staying greener – longer.

I appreciate the woman in the quilt store – who helped me find the perfect colors for the quilted table runner project I am tackling.  Her practiced eye for colors and depth, knew to choose something I had not considered and will now make a wonderful contract picking up some of the more subtle colors.

How about you?  What 3 good things that have happened for you today?

This recipe is actually adapted from one that I found 2 decades ago in a Robin Hood Flour recipe leaflet.  The sugar quantities have been greatly reduced and other modifications made for added flavor and nutrition.  This is a great recipe to have on hand when bananas reach that stage of over-ripeness - too sweet and mushy to enjoy.  The whole thing is quick to make.  If  you have over ripe bananas on hand all too often, you can pre-measure the dry ingredients into some jars or containers, labelled with the remaining wet ingredients remaining to be added.  Then you kinda have your own ‘cake mix’.

Sift together

1 1/2 cup all purpose flour  (or 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1 /2 cup all purpose flour)

1/ 2 cup sugar

1/3 cup Cocoa powder

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix together:

3/4 cup milk

3 medium  very ripe bananas mashed (if you use larger bananas the cake will be moister)

1/3 cup vegetable oil

1tbsp lemon juice

2 tsp. vanilla

Make a well in the dry ingredients and stir in the wet ingredients.  Pour into a greased 8″ square pan and bake in oven at 350 degrees for approximately 35 minutes.  A knife poked in the middle will come out clean.  I suspect the time depends on how many bananas are used and altitude.

Frost with something nice or eat plain

ENJOY

Cooks Note – I usually use unbleached or ‘bread’ flour
- you can add 1level tablespoon of ground flax seeds OR wheat germ

“I make healthy food choices.” -

One way to support your intention to make healthy food choices is to create some routines that support this. Here are 3 ideas…

1.  Plan ahead and stock your pantry with summer food choices that are healthy and easy to reach for.  Have colorful fruits and vegetable snacks on hand. Also take advantage of the cycles of nature and use food that is in season and grown locally.

2.  We are all creatures of habit and we do like things to be fast and easy.   Find some recipes for summer  one dish meals that are quick and easy to make and you like them a lot.   Be sure you always stock the ingredients in your pantry.

3.  Get creative and make your own cookbook of simple recipes to make in 30 minutes or less.  You may find good inspiration at MarthaStewart.com, Gourmet.com or other recipe sites.   Having the recipes close at hand and the ingredients in your cupboard will support your intention to “…make healthy food choices.”   Of course this may already be easier for you to do than you think as you have been repatterned with the daily mini session called Energize!

Repatterning for the Summer Solstice

When we fully realize that we are an interconnected part of the web of nature, we become aware of when we are in harmony with nature or going against the flow.  Nature’s intelligence permeates all the we are and do.  We experience flow, energy and contentment when we are in synch with natures cycles and transitions.

In the 5 Element Theory of Energy work (governing things like Feng Shui or Acupuncture) we are currently in the Element of Fire, the season of summer.   This period activates qualites for Joy, Warmth, Intimacy, Compassion, Positive Control, Sorting Things Out (great for garage sales) Social Relationships, Communication, Balance, Maturity and Open-heartedness.

When we pursue activities and priorities that relate to the above qualities, our energy is more expanded at this time of year.  Energetically we get more out of them.

On June 20th I did the long distance healing repatterning session -Repatterning for the Summer Solstice. The overall intention was “I nurture life long relationships.”    Some of the astrological patterns that were cleared in this session include:

Mercury-I am naturally organized.
-I listen with true understanding.
Saturn-I ask with integrity.
-I learn my lessons.
Earth-I am practical.
Neptune-I am a healer.
Venus-I enjoy the arts.

How have these patterns shifted your situation for the intention “I nuture life long relationships.”? Your comments and stories are welcomed!
