The un-immediate breakthroughs of a quilt project
Most people come to repatterning sessions with a crisis in hand, or deep core issues that they are resolved to clear in an instant. The immediate changes that can happen as a result of a session clouds our awareness about the quantum changes that take place over time especially where a commitment to growth and transformation has been made.
Such has been the case on reflection of my own goals and intentions (ala the Spring Equinox repatterning as well as the recent Time on My side Repatterning)
A creative breakthrough of some kind has happened for me visible during the past week like a hibernating crocus now emerging. On my recent quilting retreat week, I experienced a new high energy state for project completion, for learning new techniques and accepting the completion of a creative project. Even the cold symptoms that came with me could not stop the transformation. I recognize that this has been budding for a while as I recall starting this quilt well over a year ago with my friend Kathie who is also making the same pattern. Initially it was over-whelming it was to have over 29 DIFFERENT fabrics, dozens of pieces and new techniques to master in order to create the quilt. In the past, I easily would spend time in the ‘day dreaming conceptual stages’ of such a project indulging many at the same time. The problem was moving the daydreams and related inventory to completion or manifestation. I often wondered how some people could just purchase the kit or materials, spend a weekend and just get it done. My projects could collect dust for a few years before resembling anything. Whenever, I set out time to work on them, I would become exhausted or lethargic and unable to do very much with them.
Those low energy states for creative endeavors, I am happy to say have really changed! Over the course of a number of repatterning programs I have been determined to change my patterns around creative projects and their completion. This last week, I noticed that I was more in synch with nature, with an inner timing around each project or each piece of a project and spent the right amount of time on each part. Despite having a cold (I will spare you the details!) I was able to finish the fussy details of the quilt, sew the 12 blocks together and add the 3 borders. There was time left over to at least start one other smaller project. I found my skill level increasing and frustration with mistakes totally diminished. I also noticed that I am unconsciously making space and time for myself to indulge my sewing passion creating mini retreats within my day. Don’t worry – I am still answering the phone!
My goals or intentions for creating and completing satisfying creative projects after many years of repatterning seem to finally be manifesting. Mostly what I wanted to share is that focusing on an intention sometimes has its own timing based on an inner order of other patterns that need to clear first. It is impossible to know what the precise order mother nature is creating. All we can do is commit to a process of change and transformation, detach from the results and appreciate what the universe delivers.
